Default Charged with 2 degree misdemeanor

Hi, I live in Florida and I got pulled over for driving with expired tags. When the cop asked me for drivers license, I gave him my International Drivers License. He asked if I had a FL drivers license and I said yes but it expired in July. He asked me why I didn't get it renewed, I told him that to renew my license I had to have a copy of my visa and I had sent my visa documents to the INS for renewal and they had not come yet and hence I couldn't renew my FL drivers license.
He said that he would have to charge me with a second degree misdemeanor for driving without a valid drivers license but I told him that my International Driving license was valid and that is was false that I was driving with an expired license.
He wouldn't listen and charged with a misdemeanor and I had to call one of my friends to drive my car home and I have to make a court appearance.

My question is will this case hold in court because I wasn't driving with an expired license. I furnished my FL license only at his request and he held me to the license that he asked me for and not the one I originally showed him.
