Rep Power: 0 | | Ex illegally claimed children on this years tax return I've been taking care of my children ever since they were born. Their biological father owes thousands in child support and hasn't seen the children for years. I recently moved to colorado, worked and filed my 2007 taxes, claiming my children, like I've done every year. I was denied because their father falsly claimed them on his taxes and he got the child tax credit. I don't believe he filed in his name, due to him owing so much in child support; they will take what ever he gets back in a refund. He's never filed a tax return in the past. I filed an amendment to try to get the money back. I've talked to irs about this situation, but I feel they blow me off and don't take it seriously. What can I do to get some answers? Is this matter illegal? Do I have rights? How do I prevent this from happening year after year?
