Many people don't realize how important it is to check out the accuracy on their credit report before applying for credit, a loan or even just to make sure everything is correct. When a person applies for a car or home loan, they are often surprised to find that there are problems the individual didn't even know about and never knew existed. It is estimated that as many as 75% of all reports contain inaccurate or misleading information. An individual can dispute the inaccurate information on their report and get it removed but they must be aware of it in order to do so. People tend to assume that in order to check the information, they need to have a reason to do it in the first place. However, when it comes to your own records this is not true. With the rising cases of identity theft and errors in reporting by numerous creditors, people should consider checking credit report information frequently. It is important to check the information on a regular basis because a single error on a report can impact the kind of interest rates that you are offered and you can be turned down for loans on major purchases such as cars or homes. Even insurance companies can turn a person down after they check credit report information and deem an individual to be a high risk.
