If you have any legal trouble, how do you determine a good lawyer whom to entrust your case? -------------------- Choosing the Best Lawyer |

Good question..... Knowing a few lawyers personally I have never really thought of how to validate a lawyer is worthwhile..... I assume you could look them up in the State bar just to make sure their info checks out, but other than that - how would you know..... Probably why lawyer referrals are so common.

Referrals are also a great source of finding out reputation. I would also suggest you find out the price structure of the lawyer before moving forward with a decision. Finding a great lawyer you can not afford does not really help you much. As far as finding the right lawyer, I would also say that all lawyers have some type of specialty. There is no one lawyer that is an expert in all fields, although many will tell you that they are. |

Ask the lawyer for the list and addresses of the clients he has worked for in the past few years. If it is feasible for you, go to those clients and find out from them. Since you want a criminal law specialist.Get the list of only such cases from him. You can also search about lawyers court history? - how many cases have been won, how many cases have been lost and how many years of trial experience??? It was so simple for me when I had an issue because I hired Mike Ross who is well known defense lawyer in San Francisco. |

| The good lawyer is not the man who has an eye to every side and angle of contingency, and qualifies all his qualifications, but who throws himself on your part so heartily, that he can get you out of a scrape Jack Harry Last edited by Fishnagles; 06-07-2009 at 07:15 AM. Reason: removed link |

My personal advice is that you should start your search by asking people around you instead of searching on the internet. People around you might be knowing a lawyer better based on their personal experience and you can have a better picture. So, ask your friends and others who have been into some sort of legal activities earlier. When you know a few lawyers, it is the time to ask certain questions. Call those lawyers or fix an appointment with any of them and you can ask them if they have handled some similar cases recently. Do they have any expertise in some area? How can they help you better then anyone else? How many similar cases have they handled before? Based upon some meetings and appointments, you can make a decision as to which lawyer you should go for.
