Default Used By The Police

I honestly belive i've been set up but dont know what to do. Before i start of let me just say that i do use drugs(cocain). i only buy it from one person. Well I was stopped for no reason now that i look back. i was driving down a back road just outside the city. a cop drove right up behind me and stopped me. he just asked what i was doing. i told him i was just driving around. he asked if he could search the truck. I was in my mother truck and i know i never carry anything in there yet some how they found a bag of cocain. well at the time i got nervous so i froze up think how in the world could that be in there. well thats what happened. now i'm arested and they start telling me that if i dont help them with information on the guy i buy from they will press those charges on me is that black mail? can they hold that over your head? also can the use me as bait. if i was to record the cop saying what they want me to do or "else" would that help me?

Default Nope, they didn't use you...

Driving through the back alley of a known drug distribution area not only gives them "probable cause", it creates in their mind a list of what to check for (police departments have a very good understanding and maintain comprehensive databases on drug activities by region and location):

This is very important, WHERE DID THEY FIND THE COCAINE? In the bed of the truck or in the passenger area? This factor will be huge for you.

If they found it in the cab of your truck, you better have evidence showing of tampering or breaking and entering into the cab of the truck.

As far as them blackmailing you... it is not considered blackmail when police try to extort information to prevent or apprehend criminal behavior. It would be considered blackmail had you not been in possession, which gives them the opportunity to 'follow the trail'. In other words, criminal behavior isn't protected by the law. Think about it, why would the law protect law breaking?

Get a good attorney and follow his or her advice thoroughly. I hope this works out well for you if you are innocent.

By the way --- Police aren't allowed to just plant evidence on people like you see in the movies, too many checks and balances with computers and cameras... but it is possible. If it was that easy, you would see many of the same offences today, that you saw in the 90's with officers using the drugs themselves or planting evidence as you have suggested. But with computers and databases and new rules of procedure and cameras.... its an unlikely scenario.
