Rep Power: 0 | | Charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident and crossing marked lines. Last Saturday I was driving past a shopping plaza and a car pulling out of the parking lot hit me on my passenger side rear quarter, just above the rear tire. I stopped and examined the damage but there was no real damage. I've had my car for 15 years and the area hit was a place that had been bonded because of rust. A passenger froom the other approached me and I told him there was no damage. He said that I had hit the other car. Well, I can't see how I could hit the car with my rear side as described above. I said that was impossible and he said "the cruiser has been called". I told him I was not waiting around for a cruiser because I had somewhere I had to be. I left the scene and called the police department. The office took my name and phone number and said someone would call me. Phone tag until today when I speak with officer who says she is charging me with leaving the scene of an accident and crossing marked lines. I explained that my car was hit so why should I have to stay? She said it's the law. Now I am in my 60's and have had more than one fender bender in my life and I have never called the police at all. I simply exchanged papers with the other driver and went from there. The office said because I left she would go by the statement of the other driver that I hit her.
I plan to go to the scene of the accident and measure the road from shoulder to middle line. I know I can prove that no line was crossed. I don't know how to proceed as to the "he said, she said". Any thoughts. | | Domain Names Sponsor | | |
