Ex sister-in-law cut my daughter's hair off! - Court Forum

My daughter's aunt cut her hair off at a Father's Day get together without my knowledge or consent. Can I file a small claims against her? What if my daughter's Father says that he gave consent? We have joint physical and legal custody. My daughter had mid-back long blonde hair and my ex husband's sister cut it off! Please help with this matter! Thank you. Charlotte

I'm just not sure if you'll have any grounds.... When parents have joint physical and residential custody, this means that the child lives with both parents and that both parents equaly have responsibility for the child....

You are both "supposed" to consolt each other on matters of education, health, etc..... I'm just not sure if hair style is something you'll be able to push.....

How does your daugher feel about it?

It's not just hairstyle, it was a butcher! There are people out there sueing hair dressers all the time with this, and my sister in law is cutting hair with an expired hair dressing license! Isn't there anything I can do to prevent this? I'm asking you as a professional. Thank you.

I suggest that you record your views in writing and see if you can get an assurance from the child's father that there will be no repetition of such an incident. You could invest in communication from an attorney if your own letter fails to evoke a response that satisfies you.

Maybe your daughter wants already gave her consent with your sister in law to have her hair styled. Have you asked her? Is it against her will? Have you talked to your sis in law about this (EX rather)

A mother should have a say in such a matter. Perhaps the parents may decide to let a child have its way, but surely a mother can be consulted beforehand!
