Okay, here's the story.

I have a court date in a few weeks for displaying false tags. The tags were false, but I had paid for the new one already, just hadn't applied them to my license plate.

I took the tags from a friend who had totaled his car because I couldn't afford to pay the registration when it was due the year before. So really I had just paid for 2 years of registration. I was paying 2006 late and 2007 on time.
...yeah. Bad idea.

I am really nervous about this court date. I don't know what to expect. I'm not sure what kind of trouble I might be getting into over this. I was hoping someone here would be able to tell me more about the kind of consequences I'm looking at. All that I really know is that it is a misdemeanor.

Oh, and I live in California, and have never been in any legal trouble before. If that makes any difference.

Anyway, if anyone has any idea about what I should expect, or how I can prepare myself for this, I'd really appreciate it.
