Rep Power: 0 | | Statue of Limitations on traffic violation Today, my husband received a letter in the mail stating that he owed $86.00 for a ticket (no inspection sticker) that he got 20 years ago. The letter stated that he has an outstanding warrant, until the ticket is paid. I know that if he had this ticket, we paid it, but I don't have a reciept from that long ago. Apparently, the county where he got the ticket has just recently become computerized, and that is how it came to light. But, we haven't heard anything for 20 years about it, until today, it seems crazy to me. My husband has a Class A CDL and can't afford for that to be messed up. Is there a statue of limitations on something like this? There he is out on the road, what if he gets stopped for some reason, are they going to take him to jail over a 20 year old ticket?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that the ticket and, now the warrant were issued in Oklahoma. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Rep Power: 3 | | It sounds like he was defaulted twenty years ago, so it shouldn't show up as a new ticket against his CDL. If you're worried about that possibility, check with a traffic ticket lawyer in he county where the ticket and warrant were issued. You may wish to contact a lawyer in that county about the possibility of trying to pay a fine to have the warrant quashed - I doubt that the prosecutor would fight particularly hard over something which would close the books on a twenty-year-old traffic matter. | | Domain Names Sponsor | | |
