Rep Power: 0 | | Who Should Pay???? Need Advice ASAP Please... For information, I am a college student that lives in Alaska.
A few weeks ago I could not get into my apartment due to the door freezing shut. This has been a problem we have asked the realtor to deal with and they have not been successful in fixing the problem. So, that night I came home late from work and it was minus 20 outside. My bf was stuck in the apartment and I was stuck out. He tried everything he could for over an hour to get the door open. He couldn't so he called the police and the fire station-they said that they would have to break down the door if they came over. So, we continued to try and open the door, not wanting that to happen. However, the door finally opened, but busted in the process due to our trying to open it. The door was fixed shortly after by the realtor and we were told we would be receiving a bill for the door. We did not receive one. Then we paid for our rent and got an eviction notice saying that we needed to pay the bill in full. They had taken the cost of the door (400) off of our rent and charged us a late fee of 50 for not getting the rent in on time. The check was for the rent, not the door, since we never got a bill for the door.
Is it our responsibility to pay for the door since we damaged it trying to open it? Or is it their responsibility because they are supposed to keep things in working order? How to proceed with this? | | Domain Names Sponsor | | |
