I am curious about what my orthodontist did I am thinking about suing
I came in to get braces when I was 16 because my bite wasn't well. I had a bite which was neither under nor over it was pretty much lined. I also had a twisted tooth but this was corrected by the braces.
I got braces for about in about half a year. I still had the bite that was lined but my twisted tooth was fixed. I didn't say anything about the bite because I thought they knew what they were doing. I am almost 18 years old now and I realize that they made a mistake. I went to my orthodontist recently for a check up and I told him about my bite. He seemed very surprised at it at first and he said that it wasn't going to do much to me and it didn't really matter.
At this moment I recalled the time when I was getting examined to get my braces. Pretty much the main reason they said I would need braces was because I had a lined bite and they said it will have an effect on me when I get older. I told him that they said that when I first got them on. He looked at my bite again and said that I may need to get braces again.
I questioned him about this because I should not need to get braces again if I already had them once. My bite was not finished and they took them off. It was their fault that this happened.
My orthodontist went in back to ask his co-worker about my case. He came back a few minutes later and said that they took off my braces because I had bad oral hygiene and he said they had a note about it which I didn't really get to see. I think this is an excuse for an error that they made.
Then the co-worker came in and examined me. She said that my jaw had grown over the time and that they could not "predict" that it would happen like this. They took pictures of me again and set up another apointment in 6months to check and see if I would need braces or not depending on how my jaw grows. If my jaw stays the same I will probably get braces again they said.
Well, I am dissatisfied with their decisions. I think that they are making up excuses for an error they had made. It wasn't that they couldn't predict that this would happen but rather that they screwed up before.
Anyway, I would like to have your opinion on this because I find these matters fishy. I am thinking of suing them but I have never sued someone for anything before and I am still young so I don't really know if I should or shouldn't or what the consequences could be if I did decide to sue.
